In addition to the Interceptor brand name revival, Royal Enfield is also planning on bringing back the name “Meteor” from its rich history. Applying to the European Trademark Rights, Eicher Motors, the parent company of Royal Enfield has submitted a request to gain permission for the Royal Enfield Meteor nameplate. The brand wishes to use the same tag for the clothing and merchandise in addition to the motorcycles, fittings and parts.
Royal Enfield had submitted the application for the name revival at the end of February 2019 though, the application was published on April 3. The brand has to wait for 3 consecutive months to check if any other company has any objection related to the Meteor brand name. According to the reports, there was no objection witnessed at the time of application filing.
Judging from the brand’s earlier rights to use the name “Meteor” for their lineup, there shouldn’t be any problem in getting the copyright again. According to the speculations, the upcoming Royal Enfield Meteor will be highly inspired by the Concept KX bobber. The 838cc concept made its world debut at the EICMA in November 2018.
The brand will be using the all-new parallel-twin 648cc engine as seen on the 2019 Interceptor and the Continental GT for their “Meteor” motorcycle lineup. The engine generates maximum power 47 HP at 7250 rpm with maximum torque of 52 NM at 5250 rpm. The original Meteor launched in 1953 was powered by 700cc parallel-twin engine and was priced on the portfolio below the Interceptor model, launched at that time. It is still unclear whether a similar structure will be followed now. The upcoming Royal Enfield Meteor is expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of under INR 2.75 lakh.
