The much-talked-about Royal Enfield Meteor has been spotted testing for the first time ever. The “Meteor” identity of the motorcycle has been confirmed by the test mule rider when the motorcycle was being tested on the Chennai road for the NVH levels.
According to a video uploaded by Dhabaswin KD, a Youtube channel, the test mule rider was spotted wearing the Royal Enfield riding gear while confirmed certain specifics of the upcoming Meteor. Some reports also suggest that the 2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird series will be launched in India under the “Meteor” name tag though there is no official confirmation received on the same.
The motorcycle is based on the J-Platform while the brand has codenamed it as J1C0. In addition to this, the brand is expected to roll out several products under the same platform specification.
Coming to the video, the Meteor test mule rider has confirmed that the motorcycle has been equipped with a revised engine that is different from the 350cc engine available on the Thunderbird series. In addition to this, the motorcycle has been equipped with an all-digital single-pod instrument cluster while the tail light setup has also been revised.
The motorcycle is expected to feature an overhead camshaft while the pushrods seen on the present-gen Thunderbird variant are expected to be replaced. The motorcycle’s exhaust note has been revised a bit while one can also expect to experience a significant reduction in the vibrations as well as the noise.
The power and torque output of the Royal Enfield Meteor has not been revealed as of yet though they are expected to be tweaked a bit with the addition of a BS6-compliant engine when compared to the BS4 engine available on the present-gen Thunderbird. Once launched in India, the Meteor is expected to get a premium of INR 10,000-INR 15,000 over the Thunderbird series which is available in the market at a starting price tag of INR 1.56 lakh (ex-showroom).
