Royal Enfield Sold 60,142 Motorcycles in April 2017

Royal Enfield sold a total of 60,142 units in April 2017, gaining 25 percent more sales than the same period last year. The total number includes 58,564 units for the domestic market and 1848 units for exports. The company sold 48,197 units in the same month last year. Royal Enfield Classic 350 is the best-selling RE motorcycle in India and 4,16,693 units of the same were sold from April 2016 to March 2017.

It can be easily concluded that 70 percent of the sales come from a single model (Classic 350), which was once held by the Bullet in the Indian market. The recent introduction of Redditch Edition for the Classic 350 became a favorite among customers in a small span of time. Classic 350 even covered the failure of RE Himalayan, which was supposed to be a game changer for the brand.

When it came to clearance of the BS3 stocks, not much offers could be had from the company’s side as they started rolling out the BS4 compliant models nearly one month before the April ban. Some dealers had stock from the BS3 range but still it was sold for much lesser discounts than most other brands. The most popular engine from Royal Enfield is the 346cc, single cylinder unit producing 19.8 BHP and 28 Nm of torque. It brings maximum sales number into Royal Enfield’s stable.

Royal Enfield is expanding at a considerable pace as they have recently inaugurated a retail outlet in Sao Paulo, Brazil. They retail indirectly in many countries but only have 2 dedicated international stores currently, one in Thailand and 2nd one in Brazil. Royal Enfield Brazil is a recently appointed subsidiary of the parent company that will take care of the marketing and sales operations in the country. Claudio Giusti is the new country manager for Brazil and would help the brand expand in a phased manner. They sold a total of 6,60,000 units last year and plan to expand the production to 9,00,000 units by 2018.
