According to the reports, Norton Motorcycles, the British two-wheeler manufacturer is working on introducing a sub-500cc motorcycle that will be christened as Commando Cub. The motorcycle has been specifically designed for the developing markets that include India as well. The upcoming motorcycle will be made available to the customers via Kinetic Group’s Motoroyale showrooms.
As per the brand, the Commando Cub will be the most affordable Norton motorcycle made till date while they expect the motorcycle to clock in a total of 25,000 units in a single year. When launched in India, the 500cc motorcycle will compete in the market with the likes of Royal Enfield 650 Twins, and the Leoncino 500. The exact displacement of the upcoming motorcycle has not been revealed yet.
The recently surfaced reports suggest that the brand will be launching the motorcycle in the year 2021 though no official confirmation has been made as of yet. The localisation of the brand has been confirmed by Kinetic’s Group MD, Ajinkya Firodia, which will make the upcoming motorcycle affordable to the majority of customers.
Taking the styling cues from Norton’s Commando portfolio which includes Commando 961 California and the Commando 961 Sport MK I, the upcoming Commando Cub will have a cafe-racer inspired design language. The suspension duties on the motorcycle will be handled by premium inverted forks at the front while the rear will feature a monoshock unit. The Commando Cub will feature disc brakes at either end while being mated to a dual-channel ABS unit as standard.
The Commando Hub will lineup in Norton’s portfolio before the Norton 650 Atlas that is expected to hit the Indian markets by March 2020. The motorcycle will be made available to the Indian customers in both the Ranger and Nomad variants as seen in the international markets. The former has been specifically designed for off-roading while the latter has been designed as a road-focused motorcycle.
