Suzuki Gixxer once had a good time among the streetfighters of India but suddenly, the charm was seen going down from four to a three-digit sales number. The March 2019 sales figure for the motorcycle is pretty disappointing at just 460 units, that too when including both the body types and their multiple variants with fuel injection, ABS and other variations. The motorcycle was good for 4720 units in March 2018, clearing the fact that the drop in sales is almost 90% in just one year.
The buyers are more interested in new and more expensive Yamaha FZ V3 series, and believe it or not, the price gap between both the bikes is INR 10,000. The high amount charged by Yamaha is still not stopping the buyers from considering their motorcycle and meanwhile, the drop in sales for both the Honda CB Hornet and Suzuki Gixxer is increasing at an alarming rate.
The CB Hornet 160R is still good for a couple of thousand units while Suzuki Gixxer registered the worst ever sales figure in the last month of FY 2018-19. Not just the Gixxer, other popular options like Intruder also suffered huge damage with just 96 units sold in March 2019. Suzuki is focusing primarily on the scooter segment and that becomes clear from their approach of posting 49,875 units for the Access 125 and 8,250 units of the Burgman Street.
The overall sales number from Suzuki is up by a considerable margin but, the number of motorcycles moving out of the dealerships has gone down considerably. Suzuki Gixxer is awaiting an update in the coming months in terms of new design and fans can expect a radical change through the use of more modern design lines on the Gixxer body. The fuel tank of the motorcycle looks thin in comparison to its rival streetfighters and this time, the brand can introduce a massive front section with visible weight distribution in the favour of the headlight section.
