The rumours of Suzuki working on a 250cc Intruder started surfacing online back in May 2019. In one of the recent updates, the patent images highlighting the exhaust system of the Suzuki Intruder 250 have leaked online. In terms of the design of the exhaust system, unlike the Intruder 150’s sharp and edgy looks, the 250cc model’s muffler features a cleaner and much simpler design to enhance the overall outlook of the upcoming motorcycle.
Technically, the upcoming 250cc cruiser motorcycle will be powered by the Gixxer 250’s BS6-compliant 249cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is good for a maximum power of 26.5 HP @ 9300 rpm along with a peak torque of 22.2 Nm @ 7300 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Like the setup seen on the Intruder 150, which is based on the Gixxer SF 150, one can clearly imagine the same components as Gixxer SF 250 on the bigger Intruder 250. This means that the upcoming motorcycle would be getting a dual-channel ABS unit, big front and rear disc brakes, thick tyres (110-front and 150-rear), updated all-digital instrument console, and a revamped suspension setup.
The Intruder 250 would be a direct rival to the Royal Enfield 350 series and Jawa bikes, although these have more displacement and high torque in comparison to the 249cc Suzuki engine. The lack of cruisers around this segment can bring direct benefits to Suzuki and start a new war between the Japanese brands (Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki). Kawasaki India has no focus on a single-cylinder product at present. The Suzuki Intruder 250 is expected to be priced around INR 1.80-1.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
