SWM Motorcycles Coming to India by October 2017

Kinetic Motors will bring more premium brands into India through the collaboration program and this time, it is none other than Speedy Working Motors (SWM) of Italy. SWM Motorcycles would be the second Italian brand for Kinetic

It could be a potential rival for the growing premium Indian bike segment. SWM was founded in 1971 while successfully existed till 1984. After 30 years of hibernation, it was resurrected by Shineray Group of China and now could get even more exposure through the Indian market.

SWM Gran Milano

Key Specs of SWM Gran Milano:

  • Engine – 445cc, 1-Cylinder, 4-Stroke
  • Maximum Power – 30 PS
  • Maximum Torque – 36 NM
  • 5-Speed Transmission

Kinetic went through a feasibility study and judged how the brand could be presented in India. The bikes may reach MotoRoyale around the last quarter of 2017, most probably being October in this case.

When going through the company’s lineup, Kinetic found Super Dual to be the best motorcycle for the initial Indian debut. When it makes a successful entry, they can further move to Gran Milano, Gran Turismo, RS650R and Silver Vase for the country. Super Dual is available in two variants in the Italian market.

SWM Super Dual

Key Specs of SWM Super Dual:

  • Engine – 600cc, 1-Cylinder, 4-Stroke

Super Dual is powered by a single cylinder, 600cc engine producing 56.3 PS and 53.5 Nm of torque. Kinetic is still not sure about the pricing but it would be brought through the CKD route for lowest possible placement.

Kinetic is successfully assembling MV Agusta F3 800 at their Ahmednagar plant currently and the same facility will be used to assemble the initial SWM products. The once coming later will carry a smaller 445 cc, single cylinder engine producing 30 PS and 36 Nm of torque.

SWM Gran Turismo

A representative from SWM Motorcycles said, “MotoRoyale is a multi-brand initiative and shall house multiple superbikes under the mother umbrella. Dealers of MotoRoyale shall hence retail various products from the same showroom. MotoRoyale has entered an exclusive arrangement with us for India. After the initial research we intend to start our association with the Super Dual and the motorcycle can be expected to complete its homologation by the end of 2017.”

“We believe that the SWM Motorcycles brand in India shall focus currently on tourers and adventure tourers and offer a unique value for money combination with its Italian heritage and strong price positioning. Hence we shall be focussing the portfolio to the 650 and the future products in this range. While we retain the option for the other products, they are not being considered for India. We remain proud of SWM Motorcycles’ heritage and look forward to this second Italian partner for MotoRoyale.”
