The famous British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has just launched it’s Scrambler 1200 in India. It is a perfect match for an avid off-roader enthusiast. Internationally, the brand offers two variants of the Scrambler 1200: XC and XE, but only the XC model has marked its debut in India. Also, the XC variant of the bike is a more affordable option as compared to its top-spec XE variant.
Mechanically, the Scrambler 1200 is powered by a distinctly tuned version of the 1200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine that is also available in the Thruxton. It produces 90 HP of power at 7400 rpm and 110 Nm of peak torque at 3950 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The Scrambler 1200’s new double cradle chassis has been built especially for enhancing the off-roading experience. It is the first motorcycle in its class to feature a standard 21-inch front wheel and it has wire spoke rim which supports tubeless tyres. The rear of the bike features a 17-inch unit and the wheels are wrapped in semi-blocky Metzeler Tourance tyres. Those who seek more ability, the Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres are approved for use as well.
The bike comes with all-LED lighting with backlit switches. It also gets switchable traction control, a slip and assist-clutch, and dual-channel ABS as standard. The bike has got features like keyless ignition, cruise control and USB charging. For suspension duties, the bike comes with 45mm fully adjustable long travel Showa USD forks and adjustable dual rear shocks from Ohlins.
The braking performance of the bike comes from twin 320mm discs paired with top-spec Brembo M50 monobloc callipers at the front and a single 255mm rear disc brake. The kerb weight of the bike is 205 kg while the electronics on the Scrambler 1200 XC are quite extensive. It features a 2nd-gen TFT instrument console.
Triumph has integrated the bike with a GoPro control system. It is a cool feature that allows you to control some functions of your GoPro action camera via motorcycle’s display and switchgear. It also comes with turn-by-turn navigation that is powered by Google Maps. Other than that its electronics will come in the form of a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a USB port, and heated grips as an optional accessory.
The Triumph Scrambler 1200 is available in 2 colours: Jet Black with Matt Black, and Khaki Green with Brooklands Green. The motorcycle is priced at INR 10.73 lakh (ex-showroom India). It will compete in the market with the likes of Ducati Scrambler 1100 and the BMW R NineT Scrambler.
