TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is now available with ABS in India on the fuel injected variant for INR 98,644 (ex-showroom). The price difference for the single-channel ABS is INR 6499 and thus, TVS is here with the first ever single channel unit in its lineup. The same price hike is expected to arrive on the carburetor-fed engine in the coming days. The introduction of single-channel ABS in India will help TVS place the Apache RTR 160 at an economical price point for the upcoming mandatory ABS norms.
As most brands will move into the 90k segment with their 150-160cc options, they will still have a motorcycle in the 80k segment. On the other hand, the base variant of Apache RTR 160 4V, if available with the same ABS unit, will effectively be priced at INR 89,644 (ex-showroom). TVS may not discontinue the model as showing a smaller ex-showroom price tag for their entry-level models has always been a strong point for Indian brands. Also, buyers with a slight extension of the budget can get their hands on the middle variant for INR 3000 of the price increase.
TVS may also switch the ABS unit on its Apache 180 to bring down the cost for their uniquely-placed model. However, doing the same in Apache 200 may not be a wise move since this is the only factor that makes RTR 200 better in comparison to its rivals. The Apache range of bikes starts from INR 79,370 and can be had with a dual disc variant at INR 81,699 (ex-showroom). The rivals for recently launched Apache RTR 160 4V includes Bajaj Pulsar NS160, Yamaha FZS V3, Honda CB Hornet 160R and Suzuki Gixxer.
