UM India is planning to bring an all-new 230cc engine at Auto Expo 2018. This new UM 230cc bike would most probably be based on existing range of cruisers for effective cost cutting and part sharing.
UM will keep the engine air cooled and thus, pricing will drop significantly from the present generation UM Renegade Sport S. The range now starts at INR 1.60 lakh and being effective would mean a drop of almost INR 40,000 from the 2018 pricing of the Sport S.
UM would be launching the all-new 230cc bike @ Auto Expo 2018 in February with an approx. price tag of around INR 1.20 Lakh (Ex-showroom). Auto Expo will feature this new bike and other UM concepts for the coming years.
UM has worked hard to create impressive number of dealerships in a phased manner. Now, they need to utilize this presence in such a way that the cost effective product could add a huge number to their overall sales in India.
Presently, only a niche segment of cruiser lovers head to the UM dealerships for both Sport S and Commando. Others, who are either on a tight budget or do not find these products valuable for their money, shift to Royal Enfield due to lack of competition.
This new 19 BHP (estimated), 230cc engine has the potential to bring some change. UM’s present day lineup is powered by bigger 279.5cc, single cylinder engine producing 24.8 BHP at 8500 rpm and 23 Nm at 7000 rpm. The motor comes with fuel injection and liquid cooling.
Lack of ABS further makes the deal less tempting while unique shade range for both the bikes help them get more street presence than any other motorcycle for this price tag.
Commando is the most popular model with INR 1.68 lakh of price tag and accessory laden Mojave version for INR 1.80 lakh. Flagship Renegade Classic is presently priced at INR 1.89 lakh.
