According to the reports, zero sales have been witnessed by UM Motorcycles since April 2019. The reason behind the fact is said to be the major restructuring of the brand that has been taking place for months. As per the latest buzz, UM Motorcycles and Lohia Auto will be commencing the operations again by Diwali this year.
The earlier reports suggested that the company would be relaunching its entire portfolio under the new branding UM+ though, the said news has been denied by the brand officials.
Commenting on the partnership with UM Motorcycles, Ayush Lohia, CEO, Lohia Auto, stated – “The JV company with UM Motorcycles is under restructuring. There have been rumours in the media about a split (between the partners) but nothing of that sort is happening. The company and the organisation are under restructuring. We will be sharing a report soon which will be an official statement.”
The brand will be introducing major new additions in the UM portfolio to commence the sales again around the festive season. In addition to this, the motorcycles will be further launched with 2-channel ABS as standard to comply with the latest safety norms.
Commenting on resuming operations in the upcoming festive season, Amit Lohia added – “As sales are not happening and it’s a challenge for the dealers to sustain themselves. We will clear the air on the same and we will be launching products soon. We are contemplating that by Diwali we should restart sales.”
Recently, two new UM adventure motorcycles have been spied testing on the Indian roads. The brand is likely to launch both the on-road and off-road variants of the recently spied motorcycle. According to the reports, the on-road variant of the motorcycle features 17-inch alloy wheels on either end while the off-road variant features spoke wheels and long-travel suspension setup.
In addition to these, the brand is also planning on introducing new 150cc retro-inspired scooter in India. UM will also relaunch the Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sport S motorcycles, plus the brand is also planning to launch the more affordable Renegade Duty series in the Indian market.
