UM Renegade Sales Down to 0 Units in April 2019

UM Renegade Sales Down to 0 Units (Latest Sales Report): UM Renegade series, consisting of the popular Commando, Sports S, and the Classic got zero sales number on the sales chart in April 2019. The motorcycle series is powered by a 279cc, single cylinder engine producing 24.8 HP of maximum power and 23 Nm of maximum torque.

Renegade was never upgraded with the anti-lock braking system and thus, could not continue with the production requirements after the implementation of the ABS rule in India on April 1, 2019. Almost all brands used single or dual channel ABS on their bikes but, a few options like UM and Mahindra were seen leaving the business (temporary or permanent) instead of using the safety measure.

However, the price tags of all the Renegade motorcycles were out of coordination with their engine size and performance values. Buyers always had the option to go for Royal Enfield bikes and moreover, getting the new Jawa bikes is possible for a price tag that is definitely lower than the UM Renegade price.

The inclusion of ABS will increase the price by approx INR 10,000-15,000 and thus, the top-spec UM Renegade Classic may get a price tag close to INR 2.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch of Duty series is expected to take place in the coming months and that too with ABS as standard.
