Old Yamaha YZF-R3 to be Discontinued in India Soon

According to recent reports, the old Yamaha YZF-R3 is all set to be discontinued in the Indian market by the end of March 2020. The ABS model of the motorcycle was launched in India at the Auto Expo 2018 with a BS4-compliant engine. The bike will no longer be sold in the markets after the implementation of BS6 emission norms in the country from April 1, 2020. The last known price tag of the old Yamaha YZF-R3 stands at INR 3.52 lakh (ex-showroom).

The brand had replaced the old Yamaha R3 in 2018 in the international markets, though India is yet to receive the updated version of the sports bike. Some reports suggest that the 2020 model of the bike will be officially launched in India after 3-4 months with a BS6-compliant engine.

Powering the BS4 Yamaha YZF-R3 is a 321cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 42HP @ 10,750 rpm and a peak torque of 29.6 Nm @ 9,000 rpm. The mid-cycle update offered to the YZF-R3 back in 2018 rewarded it with a new design language based on the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP sports bike.

The brand has offered the 2020 model of the bike with a fully-digital instrument panel while the split LED headlights add to the sportier appeal further. The motorcycle in the international markets features KYB inverted front forks while the rear has been equipped with a preload-adjustable monoshock unit from KYB. One can expect more news on the BS6-compliant variant of the motorcycle to follow soon.
