Yamaha WR155R Adventure Motorcycle Unveiled; India Launch Possible

As expected, the Yamaha WR155R adventure motorcycle has been officially launched in Indonesia with a price tag of IDR 36.90 million (INR 1.87 lakh, approximate). Technically, the entry-level adventure bike is based on the Yamaha R15 V3 while in terms of looks, it gets the same design language as that of the brand’s popular WR dual-purpose motorcycle series.

The all-new Yamaha WR155R features an upswept exhaust system while carrying a motocross seat setup. In addition to a higher mudguard, the brand has equipped the motorcycle with an adjustable rear suspension and dual-purpose tyres with spoke wheels. The off-roading capabilities of the motorcycle have been accentuated by a lean fuel tank and a large wheel at the front with 21-inches diameter.

Like the Yamaha R15 V3, MT-15, and the XSR155, the WR155R is also powered by the same 155cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine, but it generates less power and torque to suit its characteristics. The Yamaha WR155R develops a maximum power of 16.5HP @ 10,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 14.3Nm @ 6500 rpm.

The engine remains mated to a 6-speed gearbox and is equipped with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation). In terms of features, the Yamaha WR155R is equipped with an all-digital instrument console which displays a speedometer, a tachometer, an odometer, a fuel gauge, a digital clock, a gear indicator and more.

In terms of dimensions, the Yamaha WR155R measures 2145mm in length, 840mm in width, and 1200mm in height. The wheelbase and ground clearance of the bike stands at 1430mm and 245mm respectively. The seat height is quite high at 888mm while the fuel tank capacity is 8.1 litres. The kerb weight of the adventure motorcycle is 134kg, which makes is 8kgs lighter in comparison to the Yamaha R15 V3.

The front tyre size of the Yamaha WR155R is 21-inch and the rear tyre size is 18-inches in diameter. In terms of braking, the bike is equipped with a 240mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc. The suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic forks at the front end and a monoshock at the rear end.

As far as the launch in our country is concerned, at present, Yamaha has no plans to launch the WR155R in India though, it is being rumoured that the brand may consider the 155cc adventure motorcycle for the Indian market in the near future.
