According to the recent media reports, the Delhi Transport Department has stated that the diesel cars which are 10-year old will be deregistered from the records on 1st January 2022. The reports further state that NOC (No Objection Certificate) will be made mandatory by the Delhi Transport Department for the old petrol and diesel cars to move out of the city.
As per the details available, 15-year-old diesel cars will not be issued NOC whereas the 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol cars will be allowed to move to the other states and NOC will be issued to those vehicles, with some terms and conditions.
Not long ago, Delhi Transport Minister strictly ordered the transport department officers not to leave NOC requests pending and to complete and issue NOCs as soon as possible. According to NGT (National Green Tribunal) rules if a state has restricted issuing NOC on re-registering vehicles in any particular state then the transport department must not issue NOC to such vehicles.
In addition to that, the state will issue NOCs only to those petrol and diesel vehicles which are not older than 15-years and 10-years respectively, so that they can be re-registered in some other states excluding NCR.
Apart from that, a few days back the Transport Minister announced the retro fitment in old vehicles. He stated that the old petrol and diesel car owner have an option to convert their cars into EVs. After the conversion, those cars will be allowed to be used within the city.
For the fitment, there will be certain terms and conditions to be followed, such as retro-fitment in old petrol and diesel cars must have to be done only by electric kit approved agencies as they offer high-quality parts and performances and the list of the names of such agencies will be released soon.
Delhi Government’s this step is not only environment friendly but it will also reduce the usage of conventional resources such as petrol and diesel. At present, there is a limited supply of electric kits in the Indian market. Only a few startups own electric conversion kits up till now and those too are used for some limited amount of special vehicles. And that is why every car model can’t be converted to an EV.
