BMW recently launched the seventh generation of its 3 Series sedan in India at INR 41.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium sedan is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The new-gen model of the 3 series is based on the same Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform as the 5 and 7 series. The new sedan is larger than its predecessor, still, it is about 55 kgs lighter.
The above-mentioned price list is ex-showroom.
Mechanically, the new 3 series comes with the option of 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The 330i petrol model is good enough to produce 258 HP of maximum power along with 400 Nm of peak torque whereas the 320d diesel model churns out 190 HP and 400 Nm. Both engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
Talking about the styling of the car, it retains the basic design of the F30 series but the latest model features some minor changes all-around. The traditional round lights have been replaced by the L-shaped LED daytime running lights and the kidney grille is now bigger in size.
The rear of the car also gets new L-shaped taillights that are almost rectangular. The interior of the car gets a new layout which is quite similar to the newer BMWs like the X5 and X7. The rear seats can now be split to 40:20:40 as standard and the car also gets more storage spaces on the inside.
Coming to the equipment for the car, the base model of the new 3 series comes featured with an 8.8-inch infotainment screen while the top-spec variants are equipped with a bigger 10.25-inch unit. The infotainment system of the car comes with the latest version of BMW’s iDrive system, which can be further controlled via a rotary dial, touchpad, voice commands, touchscreen and even gesture control.
The top-spec model of the car also gets LED headlights and taillights, a digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, front and rear parking sensors, three-zone automatic climate control, an electric sunroof and a parking camera. The premium sedan will compete with the Mercedes-Benz C-class, the Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE in the Indian market.
