BMW has officially launched its next-gen 7 series in India with a starting price tag of INR 1.22 crore (ex-showroom, India). This facelifted BMW comes featured with a larger and more prominent iteration of BMW’s signature kidney grille flanked by redesigned headlamps. The front end of the car also gets a restyled bumper and gets a raised and recontoured bonnet. The changes at the sides of are least while at the back, this luxury sedan comes featured with tweaked tail-lamps and a revised bumper.
Like its previous models, the updated 7 series continues to be offered with a choice of 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The diesel motor is good enough to produce 265HP of maximum power and it is also available in a wide range of other BMWs in the country. The petrol motor that is on offer is capable of producing 340HP of maximum power. Both the engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
Apart from the standard petrol and diesel variants, BMW is also offering a plug-in hybrid variant of the 7-series facelift, the 745Le xDrive. The 745Le comes powered with an in-line, six-cylinder petrol engine that is good enough to produce 286HP of maximum power along with 450Nm of peak torque. The electric motor to which engine is mated is capable of churning out 113HP of power with 265Nm of peak torque. Their combination is capable of producing 394HP of power with 600 Nm of peak torque.
Through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, power is sent to all four wheels. The top model for the Indian market is the M760Li xDrive, priced at INR 2.42 crore (ex-showroom). The M760Li is powered by a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which is good for 609HP of power and 850 Nm of torque.
Many features come in a pack with the 7-series facelift such as it gets electrically adjustable rear seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions. There is a tablet controller in the rear centre armrest to control in-car functions.
Also, the latest BMW’s latest iDrive system comes with gesture control, it has BMW’s laser light headlamps, adaptive air suspension, multi-zone auto climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment package with individual displays and a 460W Harman Kardon surround sound system. The facelift model of the 7-series BMW will seek rivalry from Mercedes S-Class and the yet to be launched Audi A8.
