The much-talked-about 2021 Ford Bronco SUV has been officially revealed by the brand in the USA. Ford has resurrected the Bronco nameplate after a gap of 24 years as the SUV got discontinued back in 1996. The updated latest-gen model of the car has been launched in three variants: 2-Door, 4-Door, and the Bronco Sport.
Ford made an official announcement about the revival of the Bronco SUV at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. According to the brand, the 2021 Ford Bronco has the toughness of an F-series truck and performance spirit of the Mustang muscle car. The all-new SUV would be competing with the Jeep Wrangler in the off-road segment. The 2021 Bronco features body-on-frame construction while the brand has equipped the new model of the SUV with a solid rear axle for perfect 4×4 characteristics.
Mechanically, the 2021 Ford Bronco’s 2-Door and 4-Door models will be available with two EcoBoost engine options. The base 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine is good for a maximum power of 270 HP along with a peak torque of 420 Nm. The bigger 2.7-litre V6 engine generates 310 HP of power and 542 Nm of torque. The engines are further mated to an all-new 7-speed manual transmission with a crawler gear (standard only on 4-cylinder models) along with an optional 10-speed automatic gearbox. Ford is also offering the G.O.A.T (Goes Over Any Terrain) Terrain Management System with seven drive modes.
The brand would be offering the base model of the Bronco Sport with a 1.5-litre EcoBoost 3-cylinder engine producing 181 HP of power and 257 Nm of torque. The premium Sport variants will be offered with a 2.0-litre EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine which is good for 245 HP of power and 372 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to off-road capabilities, Ford Bronco has 294mm of ground clearance, 851mm of water fording capability, maximum break-over angle of 29 degrees and a departure angle of 37.2 degrees. According to the brand, the 2021 Ford Bronco has 17% more suspension travel than the Jeep Wrangler. The SUV would be available in the US market in 7 variants – Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Wildtrak, Badlands, and the First Edition, which is limited to 3500 units.
In terms of pricing, the 2021 Ford Bronco starts at $29,995 (INR 22.62 lakhs, approximate, direct conversion). As of now, Ford has no immediate plans to launch the Bronco SUV in the Indian market though, the brand may consider the same at a later stage in future.
