7th-Gen Ford Mustang Global Debut Soon; India Launch Possible

Ford plans to reveal the next generation Mustang on September 14 at the 2022 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. While the new Mustang is expected to be based on a new platform, with new features and possibly a new look, the manual gearbox is expected to remain.

Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed the news in a tweet but did not specify which manual transmission will be used. According to some reports, the next-generation Mustang will keep the iconic muscle car design.

The new generation Mustang has been spotted several times, and leaked images show that it will retain the iconic design of the muscle car. The upcoming Mustang, codenamed S650 internally, will feature a familiar headlight layout with a tri-bar LED setup, as well as the iconic Mustang pony badge on the grille flanked by massive air intakes.

According to the leaked images, the new-gen Mustang might also come with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment display. The Mustang may lose physical buttons in the centre console, replacing them with touchscreen controls.

New Generation Mustang may receive two hybrid versions in terms of engine or powertrain. The new Mustang could be equipped with a 2.3 litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine or a 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine. The power output has not yet been revealed, but the current V8 variant produces 450 hp and 556 Nm of peak torque.

Despite the fact that it has been out of production for some time, the new Mustang could be one of the Ford models that returns to India as part of the brand’s proposed plan to keep things going in India through CBU imports of select premium models. Given the timeline, the seventh-generation Mustang could make a comeback.
