Ertiga, WagonR, Santro and Redi-GO Fail Crash Test by Global NCAP

Global NCAP’s recent campaign #SaferCarsForIndia has finally been concluded while the latest test results have been shared online. According to the reports, the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Santro and the Datsun Redi Go are the cars that went under the crash tests and sadly, none of them has been able to achieve a 5-star rating in terms of the utmost safety for the driver and the kids.

Tata Nexon is still the only Indian car to pass the crash test with the highest score. The recent crash tests on the four cars have been conducted after the Indian government has announced the ABS, seat-belt reminders, speed alarms and a driver’s side airbag as mandatory features to be equipped in the cars.

Coming to the latest Global NCAP crash test results, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with two airbags has been able to bag a total of 3 stars for the adult occupant while the MPV also scored the same rating for the child occupant. The crash test involved testing dummies in the MPV while the top speed was limited at 64 kmph only. Overall judging from the low ratings, the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s body shell integrity has been considered unstable when it comes to foot, head, and chest protection.

On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been able to bag only two stars in adult as well as child protection making it borderline unstable despite having a single driver-side airbag. The crash resulted in the breakage of child restraint for the 18-month-old dummy used for the test.

The hatchback Hyundai Santro has also been able to score only two stars in both the adult and child protection while fails to offer restraint system for the 18-month-old dummy used for testing. The hatchback seemed to show excessive movement on the impact though the child seat was reasonably protected at the time of the crash.

With just one star for adult protection, the Datsun RediGo hatchback is the one that suffered a huge impact while crashing. The crash test proves the RediGo to have adequate head and neck protection for the front seat passengers though, the driver’s seat has minimal chest protection. The hatchback only witnessed two-star rating for child protection while exposed the dummy’s head at the time of the impact.
