Govt Introduces BH Series Vehicle Registration Plates in India

According to the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, the Indian government has created a new registration mark for new vehicles under the “Bharat series (BH-series)” in an effort to enhance seamless vehicle transfers. This new series had been recommended on a national level a few months earlier by the apex body. When using BS numbers, the vehicle won’t need to be registered again, even if the owner moves to a number of different states. However, the BH series will only be available to defence personnel, state and central government employees, and a few other selected businesses.

According to the official announcement by the MoRTH, it can also be obtained by employees of private businesses with offices in four or more States/Union Territories (UT). The BH Series plates will have the letter ‘BH’ for the ‘Bharat Series,’ as well as a combination of numerals and alphabets. It will also include the registration year. The road tax will be charged for two years or in multiples of two. After the 14th year, the road tax will be assessed yearly and will be half of what it was previously paid for that vehicle. It is worth saying that the act will surely facilitate the transfer of private automobiles across states and UTs upon relocation to that area.

Currently, under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicle Act, a person can not keep a vehicle in another state for longer than 12 months without registering it with the RTO of the new state. Aside from that, the owner must get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the parent state and have the vehicle re-registered in the new state. Following that, the vehicle receives a new registration mark, and the owner is required to pay road tax on a pro-rata basis in the new state. As the preceding phases demonstrate, it is a hectic and time-consuming procedure.
