Great Wall Motors is planning to enter the Indian automotive segment in 2021. The car brand is based in China and may bring their Haval H6 SUV as the first product. A recent report has hinted that the brand plans to invest around INR 8000 Crore in Gujarat for a manufacturing plant. They have already got one Research and Development centre in Bangalore, with a former Maruti Suzuki employee joining the Great Wall Motors in the product planning team. The huge brand commands four sub-brands around the globe and Haval is one of them. It focuses on sports utility products in their lineup.
Haval H6 measures 4649mm in length, 1852mm in width and 1710mm in height. The wheelbase measures 2680mm. The overall length makes H6 a direct rival to upcoming Tata Harrier on the lower side and Hyundai Tucson on the higher side. The healthy wheelbase will make the car good for enough front and rear seat legroom. However, the engine options seen in China are from two completely different segments. The 1.5L, four-cylinder diesel engine on the Haval H6 is good for 161 BHP at 5600 rpm and 280 Nm at 1400-3000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed DCT.
The more powerful 2.0L, four-cylinder diesel motor is good for 188 BHP at 5500 rpm and 340 Nm at 2000-3200 rpm. The engine makes Haval H6 a more powerful option in comparison to Jeep Compass and almost equal to Hyundai Tucson. The commanding stance of Haval H6, paired with its extended dimensions, may prove fatal to the upcoming cars in this segment. If Great wall Motors choose local production as the route, they can effectively place the car under INR 15 lakh for the smaller engine and under INR 20 lakh for the bigger one. It may also feature a manual gearbox.
