New Honda Civic Diesel Gets 9-Speed Automatic Gearbox

New Honda Civic Diesel Automatic Unveiled: For the lovers of the Civic sedan in India, there is a good news. For the first time, Honda is offering a diesel option on the all-new 2019 Civic sedan. This new introduction came along with the offering of a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The diesel engine option in the Civic is bound for India and the 1.6-litre motor will put out a maximum power of 120 hp and a peak torque of 300 Nm. This diesel motor will also be seen in the upcoming next generation of the CR-V SUV, which is also headed for India soon. The SUV for India will get the diesel engine and the automatic gearbox which makes it a strong possibility for the Civic to get the same power-train when it is launched in the country.

Honda claims that the diesel-engine powered Civic can accelerate from rest to 100 kmph in 11 seconds and has a top speed of 200 kmph. The company also claims that the automatic transmission can skip through gears to help the car achieve a better fuel economy and faster gear shifts.

For instance, the transmission can shift from ninth to fifth or from seventh to fourth for a better power delivery in the fully automatic mode. The company had confirmed that the Civic would make its way to India in 2019. The India-bound sedan will be a refreshed version of the car which is yet to be revealed to the public around the world.

In addition to the diesel motor, the Civic will come to India with a 1.8-litre petrol engine as well, which will produce a maximum power of 140 hp. The Civic is going to be placed in the midsize luxury sedan segment and will butt heads with the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, and the Toyota Corolla. New Honda Civic sedan is expected to be priced around INR 18-22 lakh (ex-showroom).
