The technical specifications and photos of the India-Spec 2020 Honda City have been officially revealed while the brand has also listed the car on its official website. Featuring a more mature design language, the upcoming sedan is now 109mm more in length and is 53mm wider than the last-gen Honda City variant though the height of the sedan has been reduced by 6mm. The 5th-generation model measures 4,549mm in length, 1,748mm in width, 1,489mm in height and it has a wheelbase of 2,600mm. The boot capacity of the car stands at 506 litres.
Honda has equipped the 2020 model of the City sedan with a thick chrome grille at the front which is heavily inspired by the new Civic. The sedan further features LED headlights mated to unique LED DRLs. The rear and the front profile of the 2020 Honda City is now simpler as compared to the 4th gen variant while the addition of machine-cut alloy wheels makes it stand apart from the previous version.
Coming to the interior, the 2020 Honda City features an all-new black/beige colour scheme in addition to getting an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the AC vents are now positioned vertically. The 3-spoke steering wheel has been further equipped with cruise control and infotainment controls.
Mechanically, the car will be available with two BS6-compliant engine options. The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine will be good for a maximum power of 121 HP @ 6,600 rpm and peak torque of 145 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an optional 7-speed CVT unit.
The second engine option will be a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit, which will generate a maximum power of 100 HP @ 3,600 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. The diesel engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. For now, Honda is not offering the new City in a diesel-automatic configuration.
Honda will be announcing the prices for the 2020 City in July while one can expect it to get a starting ex-showroom price tag of around INR 10 lakhs. Once launched in India, the updated model of City will compete in the market with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the Skoda Rapid.
