Hyundai has announced that the AH2 Hatchback will be launched sooner than everyone expected. The company had announced the Namkaran Contest to gain a public perspective of what the name of the AH2 Hatchback should be and the results of the votes have come in. Out of the total 4 lakh voters, more than half of them have chosen the name Santro for the upcoming car. Other names which were popular in the contest included Splash, i5, and Saneon. The latter two were chosen as a way of being a smaller variant than the i10 and the combination of Santro and Eon, respectively. The AH2 Hatchback will be replacing the EON from the Hyundai lineup.
Hyundai has leapt bounds to introduce as much space as is possible in the upcoming AH2 Hatchback. The feature list has also been extended to include many segment first features in the AH2 Hatchback so as to put it at a class above its competition. There will be rear AC vents along with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both of which have never been seen on a car this size before. Powering the AH2 Hatchback or the New Santro will be an updated version of the 1.1-liter Epsilon Petrol Engine which will be quite a lot more fuel efficient than before, providing the car with a mileage of 20.1 kmpl. The AH2 Hatchback will be the first car made by the company to get an Automated Manual Transmission and also a factory-fitted CNG Kit.
Reviving the Santro name will serve as a huge cost saver for the company as they could just get the model registered as a new generation rather than go through the whole process of registering the car again. The launch of the AH2 Hatchback is scheduled for October 23, while the bookings for the car will begin on October 10.
