Hyundai IONIQ 5 Electric Car Launched in India at Rs 44.95 Lakh

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the most popular new-age EVs on the market today. The Ioniq 5’s futuristic looks and eco-conscious interiors help to make it a very desirable car. The launch in India was highly anticipated, and today, at the 2023 Auto Expo, Hyundai launched the IONIQ 5 at an introductory price tag of Rs 44.95 lakhs (ex-showroom).

It receives a 72.6 kWh battery pack with a single and dual motor configuration. Hyundai is only offering a single-motor configuration in India.

Kia and Hyundai are corporate cousins, they share platforms and powertrains across segments. In most cases, Hyundai products are positioned as superior to Kia counterparts. Hyundai Ioniq 5 prices in India begin at Rs 44.95 lakh, ex-showroom. In comparison, the Kia EV6 starts at Rs 60.95 lakh ex-showroom.

The Kia EV6 has a larger 77.4 kWh battery pack that can produce 229 bhp and 350 Nm with a single motor RWD layout and 325 bhp and 605 Nm with a dual motor AWD layout. In comparison, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a smaller 72.6 kWh battery pack capable of 217 bhp and 350 Nm of torque.

The Kia EV6 is imported into the country as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), which attracts a 60% customs duty. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is imported into India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, which attracts only a 15% customs duty.

Even though the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 share the majority of their components but they are polar opposites. Kia aims for a sporty and modern crossover, with family design cues visible on the front fascia. Hyundai took a bold step with the Ioniq 5, creating a retro-futuristic blast.
