Electric Tata Nano Spotted in Hyderabad: Jayem Automotives, the Coimbatore based automotive brand, is all-set to deliver 400 units of the new Jayem Neo hatchback to OLA Cabs in Hyderabad.

Never heard of this name before? Let’s make things simple. It is an electric variant of Tata Nano, carrying exactly the same body shell and is equipped with an electric drive-train instead of the petrol motor.

Jayem and Tata Motors have a healthy corporate relation from a long time and this partnership in not at all a surprise for auto enthusiast of the country. JT Special Vehicles, a joint venture between both the brands, will even bring some sport versions of Tata Nano in the coming months. Electra EV will supply the drive-train, battery pack and charging solution to the new Jayem Neo.

Electric Tata NanoThe car now weighs around 800 kg and comes with a 48 volt electric system that generates a maximum power of 23 HP. The biggest limitation for this car is its availability for fleet market and hence, buyers will have to wait for a more powerful private vehicle version with a Tata badge.

The ‘OLA Electric Vehicle’ stickers will be seen on both the sides. Jayem claims that the performance of this EV will be more than necessary for a perfect city ride. ARAI claimed range is 200 km while the same drops to 140 km with four passenger and air conditioning.

Jayem would be delivering 400 Neo cars to Ola cabs at a launch event expected to happen soon. The move seems practical but overall range can turn out to be a problem for taxi operators.

It would be only beneficial if Jayem brings out fast charging docks at important locations to compensate their extra riding nature. Overall, environmentalist would be pleased to see electric taxis around the town.
