Jeep Grand Commander was recently unveiled through a set of official images. Based on Yuntu Concept, 2018 Beijing Auto Show will serve as the first physical platform for Grand Commander. The SUV comes with solid design lines and got itself patented in October 2017.
If reports are to be believed, Jeep will retail the Grand Commander in Longitude and Limited variant. Buyers will also be offered an option between front wheel drive or all wheel drive. Jeep will use its frugal 2.0L, four cylinder diesel engine producing 270 HP and 400 Nm. This motor is shared with 2018 Wrangler.
Grand Commander is 4873 mm long, 1892 mm wide and 1738 mm in overall height. The wheelbase is restricted to 2800 mm. Jeep Compass, for comparison, measures just 4395 mm in length. 2018 Wrangler will make it to India this year while no reports regarding Grand Commander’s entry was made official.
Jeep India retails the Compass through Fiat partnered dealerships while expensive products are sold exclusively from select outlets. Yuntu Concept was a fancy six seater while Grand Commander proves its worth with full sized seven seats. If launched in India, it will rival products like Mercedes GLE and BMW X5.
Jeep India got class leading sales for their Compass in 2017 as buyers were very pleased to have a compact car that had such premium feel all over. India spec Compass is powered by a 2.0L diesel engine, producing 173 HP and 350 Nm of torque.
Sharing this engine won’t be a good option for Grand Commander as its increased weight and dimensions could ruin the driving experience. Grand Commander looks beefed up with unique LED headlights, high overall stance and large windows. Even the third row passengers could get a great view of outside through fixed window glass.
