Jeep recently launched its long-awaited Meridian SUV in the Indian car market. This three-row SUV is now available in the country with a starting price tag of Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, the base model of Jeep Meridian is cheaper than the base diesel model of the Toyota Fortuner by Rs 4.39 lakhs.
The Merdian is available in two trim levels, Limited and Limited (O), and currently only in diesel powertrain. Bookings for the Compass-based SUV are already open with a deposit of Rs 50,000 as token money.
The Jeep Meridian is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Multijet turbo-diesel engine that generates 170hp and 350Nm of torque and can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
While the powertrain layout is equivalent to the Compass, the engine has been retuned and a remapped ECU for special application on the Meridian. The 4×4 wheel drive is available only with an automatic transmission, while the 4×2 wheel drive is offered in both manual and automatic.
In terms of appearance, the Meridian is indisputably a Jeep, with styling cues from the bigger Grand Cherokee L and Grand Wagoneer marketed in other markets. It also seems to be distinct from the compass. The 2022 SUV boasts a vertically slated front grille, LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs, and sharp-looking wraparound LED taillights.
Other elements include chrome essentials throughout, black-finished ORVMs and roof, silver-finished skid plates, a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels, and many more.
The interior of the 2022 Jeep Meridian is also well-equipped and designed. It comes fitted with sophisticated technology like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof.
Some features, like ventilated seats, front parking sensors, and ADAS functionality, are seriously missing, though.
