Kia India’s much-awaited MPV, the Carens, has officially launched in the Indian car market today. This three-row SUV-like MPV is the fourth model in the company’s current portfolio in the country after Seltos, Sonet, and Carnival. The Korean carmaker has developed the car by blending the features of an MPV and SUV to attract Indian families.
Launched at an introductory price of Rs 8.99 lakh, the Kia Carens will go up against the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and lower variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta. Those interested in purchasing this three-row vehicle may do so for a nominal fee of INR 25,000 by visiting a Kia dealership or the carmaker’s official India website.
Speaking of the mechanical specifications, the Kia Carens has three powertrain options. The first one is the 1.4-litre Smartstream petrol T-GDI engine, which is capable of churning out 140 PS and 242 Nm of torque. The second one is the 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol engine that produces 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque, while the third one is a 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel engine that generates 115 PS and 250 Nm of torque. These engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT automatic, or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
