The much-awaited Kia Carnival Premium MPV was officially launched in India back at the Auto Expo in February 2020. It is the brand’s most expensive product for the Indian market. The Carnival is available with a starting price tag of INR 24.95 lakhs while the top-spec variant costs INR 33.95 lakhs.
For reference, the Toyota Innova Crysta diesel-automatic costs INR 19.64-24.59 lakhs, which means the Carnival MPV is not a direct rival to the Innova. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom Delhi.
The Carnival MPV gets three seating configurations along with three trims – the entry-level premium variant is available as a 7 and 8-seater, the mid-spec prestige variant comes as a 7 or 9-seater whereas the top-spec Limousine variant gets a 7-seat layout with plush ‘VIP’ second-row seats.
The three seating configurations are arranged in such a way that the 7-seater model gets 2+2+3 arrangement, the 8-seater version gets 2+3+3 design while the 9-seater variant gets the fourth row of seats arranged in 2+2+2+3 format.
Mechanically, the MPV is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 200HP of maximum power and 440Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The ARAI certified mileage of the MPV stands at 13.9 kmpl.
The Kia Carnival MPV comes equipped with dual airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and a rear camera as standard. In terms of comfort, the base variant (Premium) gets projector headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, three-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry/go, tilt and telescopic steering and power-adjustable wing mirrors.
