Mahindra has finally unveiled its much-anticipated range of electric SUVs, following several teasers. Based on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform, the five upcoming born-electric SUVs have been divided into two distinct sub-brands: XUV.e and BE. There will be two models under the XUV.e sub-brand: the XUV.e8 and the XUV.e9.
Mahindra’s XUV brand is already well-known for its ICE models, but for its electric counterpart, the company has created a new identity. The twin peak logo on the XUV range of EVs will be given a new copper finish, and the first models will be produced in 2024.
The XUV.e8, which will go on sale in December 2024, will be the first model to enter production. This is essentially a battery-powered version of Mahindra’s current flagship SUV, the XUV700. The XUV.e8 is conceptually similar to the XUV700, despite being based on the INGLO platform, with the same basic layout, silhouette, and three rows of seats.
The design is refined enough to distinguish it as an EV. It now has a closed-off front grille and full-width LED light bars that drop into the bumper. The face is rounded out by angular cuts, bumper-mounted headlamps, and a sharply contoured bonnet. The back end, on the other hand, resembles the ICE-powered XUV700.
Mahindra has also confirmed that it will feature an all-wheel drive and an 80kWh battery pack. Power outputs will range from 230 to 350 horsepower. In April 2025, the second XUV.e9 model will be available. It is not an electric version of any current model, but rather a completely new vehicle with a coupe-like design.
Its design is inspired by the XUV Aero concept, and it shares LED lighting elements, bumper-mounted headlamp units, and a closed-off front grille with the XUV.e8. The coupe-like design at the back and the flat, stubby tail section, are what really set it apart. It also has prominent gloss-black cladding all around, something the XUV.e8 lacks. The technical specifications will almost certainly be similar to the XUV.e8.
