2020 Mahindra Thar is one of the most anticipated SUVs in the Indian market that is expected to make its official debut at the upcoming Auto Expo in February next year. The production-ready variant of the updated Thar SUV has been recently leaked in a new set of interior and exterior photos.
One can easily spot the host of cosmetic updates offered to the next-gen Thar from the new set of photos. The brand has revised the cabin of the SUV with more comfort-oriented features. The 2020 Mahindra Thar is equipped with an all-black dashboard design while a dedicated space for a touchscreen infotainment display has been mapped on the centre. The steering-mounted controls will further offer improved functionality.
Coming to the other interior bits and pieces, the updated SUV has been equipped with a revised instrument panel with a Multi-Information Display (MID). The brand has also improved the cushioning on the all-new seats which feature contrast stitching and adds on to the Thar’s rugged and premium profile.
The central air conditioner vents have also been redesigned in addition to the revised AC control dials. The front-facing rear seats and the bucket seats at the front further add to the overall comfort. The brand has also repositioned the 4×4 lever on the SUV which now sits left to the gear knob.
Coming to the updated exterior, the 2020 Mahindra Thar has been equipped with the same heavy-duty bumper at the front while the Jeep Wrangler-inspired 7-slot front grille and headlight setup has also been retained. The brand has further offered a ladder-frame chassis to the upcoming Thar that will also be seen on the next-gen model of the Mahindra Scorpio. The top-spec models of the 2020 Thar will also come equipped with 5-spoke alloy wheels on 18-inch tyres.
Powering the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be a new BS6-compliant, 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 140HP and 300Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Some reports also suggest the brand to offer a 2.2-litre petrol variant of the upcoming Thar though there has been no official confirmation received on the same.
