BS6 Mahindra Diesel Engine Lineup Officially Revealed

The BS6 Mahindra diesel engine lineup was recently showcased at an event, clearing that the brand is not fearing any drop in sales or exponential price hike from the upgrade. They have even issued a statement regarding price jump rumours as most brands are inflating the value that will increase with the component switch from the current-gen engines.

The number of diesel engines will not decrease as they will only discontinue a single 1.2L engine and launch another one under the Future tagline in the coming years. The brand will update the 2.2L, four-cylinder diesel motor and keep the output similar at 155HP / 360Nm. The same engine will produce 140HP / 320Nm for other cars.

Mahindra will also update the 2.5L engine from the Bolero and Thar DI, offering two different outputs for different operations. The commercial vehicles will use 65 HP and 195 Nm output while those for personal use will produce 75 HP and 200 Nm. The engine is almost 30 years old and no other motor knows how to be efficient and useful at the same time as this one.

BS6 Mahindra Diesel Engine Lineup Officially Revealed

The brand has spent INR 1000 crore on the manufacturing and testing of these engines with BS6-compliant components. The total number of new components in the BS6 engines is 1482, including 30 patents that have been filed during the progress.

The 1.5L engine lineup from Mahindra is vast and really fascinating. They have a 1493cc, three-cylinder engine that is good for Bolero Power Plus and TUV300. Apart from this one, the other two are four-cylinder options employed under the XUV300 (1497cc) and Verito (1461cc).

The emission control modules used by Mahindra are equally efficient to the international counterparts but above all, they save a lot of money in the production process. The selective catalytic reduction system is the expensive one while the lean NOx trap system is quite affordable. The only engine that will not see the daylight of April 1, 2019, is the 1.2L option from KUV100.
