Mahindra Scorpio Z101, the codenamed next-gen SUV from the Indian brand was spotted testing recently near Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. The images were clicked at a toll booth as the car must have been under road-testing phase before its official debut in the Indian market. Mahindra is updating most of its cars to meet the upcoming safety as well as emission norms. The first product to be spotted was the Mahindra Thar, featuring a wider body and more pedestrian-friendly stance than the current-gen car with the majority of the focus on off-roading. The new Scorpio looks longer than the current car, offering big doors for easy ingress and egress for the second and third-row passengers.
The wheels are steel-type on the test car while mirror area of the third-row section was hidden under the camouflage. The A-pillar starts in an identical manner to the current generation Scorpio. However, the difference is clearly visible in the bonnet area as the headlight and metal bonnet combination looks different than the present-gen model. The front features a new grille and headlights while the tail section looks slightly rounded in comparison to the current model. The glass area is slightly covered with the camouflage to keep the real profile hidden till the official debut of the car.
Mahindra Scorpio Z101 was earlier expected to feature a 155HP/360NM engine from the XUV500 while the recent reports hint at a more powerful 170HP diesel engine with massive 400NM of torque. The powerful unit is expected to be a 2.0L, four-cylinder option while the current-gen model is powered by a bigger 2.2L mHawk engine. The same 2.0L engine will be used on the XUV500 with BS6-compliant tag. Other cars that are priced slightly lower to the Scorpio segment will feature the updated 1.5L engine with around 300NM of torque. The remaining diesel engines seen on cars like TUV300 and KUV100 may get discontinued in favour of the Marazzo-sourced diesel engine and a hybrid petrol option.
