Mahindra has officially launched the much-awaited Alturas G4 in India with a starting price tag of INR 26.95 Lakh (ex-showroom). This price is for the 4×2 automatic variant while the 4×4 automatic model is available for INR 29.95 Lakh. Mahindra Alturas would be competing with the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X and the Skoda Kodiaq in India.
According to us, Mahindra has priced the Alturas G4 on the higher side. In comparison the 4×2 model of Ford Endeavour is priced at INR 26.32 lakh (ex-showroom), and we were expecting Mahindra to undercut the Endeavour by around INR 2-3 lakhs.
The flagship Mahindra SUV was unveiled at the Auto Expo in February 2018 and it was codenamed as Y400 and was popularly also known as XUV700. The windows of the Mahindra Alturas G4 are sufficiently sized for the front two rows, leaving a little area of vision for the third-row passengers. The headlights and tail section is mature enough to grab eyeballs while decent cladding guarantees a premium look from all angles.
Alturas G4 is fully-loaded with a host of safety features like 9 airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Active Rollover Protection, Hill Descent Control, Hill-Assist Control, Brake Assist (BA), Emergency Stop Signal and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD).
Alturas G4 comes with Napa leather upholstery and memory foam, sunroof and touchscreen infotainment system. The package comes with electronic parking brake and is available in 4×2 as well as 4×4 variant. Alturas is powered by a 2.2L, four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 180 HP of maximum power at 4000 rpm and 420 Nm of peak torque at 1600-2600 rpm. The SUV is equipped with a 7-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes-Benz to bring impressive levels of refinement. Alturas G4 is primarily a rear-wheel drive SUV and it comes with a shift-on-fly 4WD system.
Taking the premium feel to another level, the Alturas SUV comes with dual-tone interiors with a wooden finish on the dashboard and center console. Mahindra Alturas interior is elegant, purposeful and unconditionally beautiful. The brushed aluminum finish around the air vents and gloss black bezels of the touchscreen infotainment system further define attention to detail from the Indian UV brand. Alturas G4 is available in 5 shades: New Pearl White, Napoli Black, Lakeside Brown, Dsat Silver and Regal Blue.
