Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch three new cars before the end of this year. One of them has been codenamed the U321, a brand new MPV that has been spied testing. The company has planned to reveal the name of the MPV on July 31, but there have been reports that the MPV will come under the badge Marazzo. There have been many discussions about the premium vehicle ever since the company started developing it. The launch of the MPV is most likely going to be during the festive season this year.
If the reports are right and the MPV is named the Marazzo, the name will not deviate from Mahindra’s traditional approach to ending the names of its models with ‘o’. The name appears to be Italian in nature but the intentions behind the name are still unknown. The U321 is expected to be based on an all-new platform, and it will be the first product that is going to be developed and produced in Mahindra’s North American Technical Center in Michigan, Detroit. This premium vehicle will be an upmarket replacement of the Xylo, which has become obsolete in today’s market.
The U321 will be a family-oriented vehicle with the signature toothed grille from Mahindra and a well-proportioned body to seat seven or eight people. The power delivery could be from a 1.6-liter diesel engine, which could be coupled with both manual and automatic gearboxes. During the later stages of the vehicle, there could be a petrol version as well since the company is expanding its petrol engine lineup.
The other two cars which Mahindra has scheduled for later this year are the re-badged SsangYong G4 Rexton, and the SsangYong Tivoli based S201 compact SUV. The Marazzo will compete against the Japanese manufactured Ertiga and the base variant of Toyota Innova Crysta.
