Mahindra recently recalled the AWD variants of the XUV700 due to issues with the SUVs’ propeller shafts. The company has now issued another recall, this time for a major part replacement. Due to issues with their current placement, the manufacturer appears to have made some changes to the rear wheel coil springs at its R&D division. As a result, the 8-coil springs would be replaced with 9-coil springs.
If the owners do not have the updated units, the company has reportedly asked them to bring their vehicles to service centres to have the springs replaced. Mahindra is likely to have made this decision after reports of the SUV drooping downwards surfaced online.
A user reported that his AWD variant’s right-hand side suspension was rapidly losing strength. He claimed that the suspension had deteriorated to the point where the vehicle began to roll erratically at left-hand corners while remaining stable at right-hand corners. The user also noticed that the struts on the right side had dropped by 10mm.
The total number of affected units, as with the previous recall, is unknown, and Mahindra has not disclosed it. I hope the affected vehicles are fixed as soon as possible. During the previous recall, a company internal document that was leaked indicated a red alert. According to the document, as a critical service action, all of the recalled AWD SUVs’ propeller shaft bolts will be inspected for any issues.
The XUV700 is available in two AWD configurations: the top-of-the-line AX7 Diesel AT Luxury Pack AWD and the third top-end AX7 AWD Diesel AT. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine produces 182 HP and 420 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission in both variants.
According to customer feedback, the XUV700 currently has a waiting period of up to 23 months. As a result of this backlog, Mahindra has also pushed Scorpio N’s delivery timelines to the holiday season. Rajesh Jejukar, Executive Director of Mahindra and Mahindra, recently stated that the XUV700 has over 70,000 pending deliveries across India.
