Indian automotive segment is already under the dominance of Mahindra when it comes to utility vehicles. Moving ahead with their legacy, Mahindra’s North American arm has unveiled the production spec Roxor for that specific market. Based on India spec Thar, Mahindra Roxor is categorized as an off-road, off highway vehicle in the US market.
That helps Roxor UV lose some weight and enjoy the new avatar. It can be first imagined as a roofless Thar but changes made here are quite significant. Buyers in the US will get a huge 2.5L, four cylinder diesel engine producing 64 HP of max power.
This was quite a shocking detail as Kawasaki, Polaris and other ATV brands offer small, twin cylinder engines on similar products. One can safely assume this as a cost cutting measure from Mahindra as they will first establish the brand and then invest more into brand new products with exclusive engines and frames.
Unlike Thar, Mahindra Roxor comes with a five slat grille. The only reason for this development is huge presence of Jeep brand in the US. These slats on Thar even came through early assembled models of Jeep by Mahindra under product licensing and design rights.
All-wheel drive stays standard on Mahindra Roxor. The Indian brand is expected to bring more products in coming months. Roxor may not make it to India as placing it next to Thar may not be a feasible option. Off-road products do not have such a huge buyer base here as the US market. Roxor is expected to be priced around $15,000 (INR 9.80 Lakh) in the United States of America.
