Mahindra Thar 700 brochure has leaked online ahead of the launch of the limited edition model. As the name suggests, only 700 units of the signature edition will be manufactured and the car will be available in two shades: Napoli Black, and Aqua Marine. According to the brochure, it is the last chance to buy the current-gen model of Thar, as the brand will replace the same with the 2020 model next year.
Thar 700 gets a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge on its fenders with the signature of Anand Mahindra (Chairman, Mahindra Group). The limited edition model features black decals on the bonnet lid and silver finish on the front bumper as a part of the special package. The car also gets unique leatherette seat covers with Thar branding.
Mechanically, the Mahindra Thar 700 will be sold with the 2.5-litre CRDe engine which would come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is good for a maximum power of 105 Bhp at 3800 rpm and a maximum torque figure of 247 Nm at 1800-2000 rpm. The Thar 700 features five-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels which were seen on other Mahindra’s models like previous-gen Scorpio and the Marksman. The limited edition Mahindra Thar 700 will also get ABS as standard, and the SUV is expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 10 lakh. The official launch is expected to happen in the coming days.
As far as the next-gen Mahindra Thar is concerned, the brand has already started testing the same and the updated SUV is expected to make its official debut at Auto Expo in February 2020. Initially, the second-gen Thar will get a new 140 HP or 120 HP diesel engine, and Mahindra is also looking at expanding the Thar’s portfolio by adding a petrol engine in the near future.
We can expect the 2020 model of Mahindra Thar to be more refined and silent on the inside, with better insulation to avoid vibrations and heat. The upcoming car will compete with the likes of the all-new Force Gurkha, which is likely to mark its debut at 2020 Auto Expo.
