Mahindra XUV300 Scores 5-Star Rating in Global NCAP Crash Tests: The Indian car market is improving gradually and it has been proved again by the domestic carmaker Mahindra. After the 5-star safety rating achieved by Tata’s Altroz and Nexon, Mahindra’s XUV300 becomes the third Indian car to do so. The Mahindra XUV300 is the brand’s compact SUV that has scored a 5-star crash test rating with the highest combined result at Global NCAP.
The XUV300 scored 16.42 out of 17 for adult occupant protection and 37.44 out of 49 for child occupant protection. This score is higher than the Tata’s Nexon and recently tested Altroz. The XUV300 has been tested at a speed of 64kmph while the bodyshell integrity of the car and footwell area has been rated stable. The safety standards of the car are such that it is offered with two airbags at the front, with ESC and side airbags being optional. The head and neck protection for adult occupants is rated as good. The chest protection for a front passenger was good and it was adequate for the driver.
Mahindra’s compact SUV comfortably passed the requirements when tested on either driver or passenger side. The child occupant protection shows good protection for an 18-month old dummy with the CRS installed rearward facing and using the standard ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.
Reviewing the test results, the CEO and president of Global NCAP, Mr David Ward said, “Mahindra is the second Indian manufacturer to achieve Global NCAP’s coveted five-star status and the XUV300 scores the highest combined crash test result of all the cars we’ve tested in India to date. We are delighted with this hugely positive outcome in our #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. It’s a vitally important win for Indian consumers and sets a safety challenge that every manufacturer must now be measured against.”
The President-Automotive, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mr Rajan Wadhera said, “This is a proud moment for Mahindra as the 5-Star rating reiterates our unstinted commitment towards safety. Today’s conscious buyers rate safety as a top priority while making their purchase decision and we have designed the XUV300 to be one of the safest vehicles in India. I am sure that this recognition will further spur us as well as the Indian automotive industry to achieve similar safety standards for the entire range of vehicles on Indian roads”.
