Mahindra has been testing its upcoming compact SUV in India from past few months. The new SUV will be based on the SsangYong Tivoli, and the launch is scheduled for December this year. Mahindra might name the upcoming compact SUV as XUV300 for the Indian market. A production version of the car was spotted in Karnataka, being loaded off outside a Mahindra dealership. Caught by a civilian, the pictures have been revealed before the actual car is launched in India. This 5-seater compact SUV will come in the sub-4 meter segment, and no name has been revealed to the public as of now. The new SUV is expected to be launched with a variety of premium luxury features to compete with the rivals of the segment.
On the outside, there could be many features like projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, and a sunroof. The feature list may go on to include dual climate control, disc brakes on all 4 corners, a 7-inch infotainment system, ventilated seats with leather upholstery, electrically operated and heated rear view mirrors, front parking sensors, and a wide variety of other safety features as well. The safety features will also include multiple airbags. The interiors were seen when the car was being tested on the Indian roads. The dashboard is borrowed from the Tivoli, and there is a similar central console, steering wheel design, and instrument cluster as the compact SUV from SsangYong.
This upcoming SUV is expected to draw its power from a new range of 1.6-liter engines that Mahindra has been developing in collaboration with SsangYong. The transmission is expected to be both a manual as well as an automatic. There could be an option for a 1.2-liter three-cylinder G80 turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine. Mahindra’s upcoming SUV will rival the compact SUVs like the EcoSport, Nexon, Brezza, and Creta. It will not rival with Mahindra’s already outgoing TUV300 since the TUV300 is a proper SUV with 7 seats and a general miss out on luxurious features.
