Mahindra XUV500 W3 has been fully revealed, and it gets a price tag of INR 12.28 lakh (ex-showroom Coimbatore). Call it a Tata Harrier effect or a way to attract buyers with stricter than ever budget, the new model is almost empty in terms of exterior and interior features.
The first thing here is the front fascia, getting the normal black grille and an odd-looking black headlight extension in place of the chrome-laden parts seen on the top model of the XUV500. The W3 model is also not equipped with the front fog lights, LED DRLs, rear washer, and rear wiper. The side profile flaunts body-coloured mirrors caps and black 17-inch steel wheels for a watered-down feel.
However, the biggest change can be seen on the inside, with Mahindra using regular hard plastic dashboard and almost empty centre console. The display section is completely empty while vents are all-black with no highlight at all. The controller section is made of hard plastic while only controls you see on the dashboard are for the air conditioning.
The XUV500 W3 model comes with chrome lines on the knobs and plain flat steering wheel with the normal Mahindra logo. The best part for this model is to retain the 2.2L Mahindra 4-cylinder diesel engine, which is good for 155 HP of maximum power and 360 NM of maximum torque. It is good for highway driving and more than that handles seven passengers with the utmost ease.
The standard features on the car include projector headlights, power windows, power adjustable ORVMs and air conditioning for all vents. The huge 360 Nm of torque makes sure that every drive is as smooth as one can expect from the seven-seater. The 6-speed manual gearbox on the car is also equally praise-worthy. As far as the safety features are concerned, the W3 model comes with dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.
At present, the Tata Harrier SUV comes with a starting price tag of INR 12.70 lakh. Earlier, the difference in the starting price of both the cars was INR 20,000, leaving Mahindra with an option to replace the W5 variant with the basic W3 model with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 12.28 lakh. With the launch of the new W3 variant, the XUV500 now undercuts the base model of Tata Harrier by INR 42,000.
