Mahindra has shocked everyone by launching the much-anticipated XUV700 premium SUV with a starting price tag of just INR 11.99 lakhs for the base petrol variant and INR 12.49 lakhs for the base diesel variant. The brand has not revealed the complete price list yet and according to the details available, the prices for the 6-seater and 7-seater variants will be announced sometime in October this year. We are expecting the fully-loaded top-spec variant to be priced somewhere around INR 18-19 lakhs. Mechanically, the Mahindra XUV700 is available with two engine options: a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol Stallion unit and a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel mHawk unit. The petrol engine is good for a maximum power of 200HP and a peak torque of 380Nm. Coming to the diesel engine option, it is available in two states of tune. The lower version is good for 155HP and 360Nm while the higher-spec version generates 185HP and 420/450Nm (MT/AT) of power and torque respectively. Both the engine options can be had with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options. The diesel engine also comes with 4 drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom. There is also an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) version on offer.

In terms of availability, the bookings for the Mahindra XUV700 are going to open in October while the deliveries of the SUV are expected to commence from November or December. With a starting price tag of INR 11.99 lakhs, the XUV700 competes with a lot of cars around this price range like Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, Jeep Compass, MG Hector, MG Hector Plus, and to some extent, with Hyundai Tucson as well.
