The homegrown automaker, Mahindra, has been working on the next-generation Scorpio for quite some time. The latest generation Scorpio has been sighted testing on public roads for many months, and recent prototypes imply that the SUV is nearly ready for production. The Scorpio, like the Bolero, has been a long-serving nameplate for the brand and the forthcoming iteration will have considerable upgrades inside and out, as well as a new feature list. Mahindra is also expected to offer a four-wheel-drive system on the 2022 model of the Scorpio SUV.
The forthcoming SUV will most likely be the second vehicle in the brand’s portfolio to use the new Twin Peaks emblem. On the front side, it gets six vertical grille slats, a revised headlamp cluster with dual lighting arrangement, a new front bumper with C-shaped LED lighting, integrated LED DRLs, tall pillars, a new fog lamp housing and more. It is built on a redesigned ladder frame chassis, and the SUV’s proportions have also risen.
The presence of a new platform means that the passenger space in the interior could be enlarged. The cabin will have a huge touchscreen entertainment system, a new centre console and dashboard, a redesigned semi-digital instrument cluster, and a new steering wheel with mounted controls, among other things.
In terms of performance, the new-gen Scorpio will be offered in both diesel and petrol engine options. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder mStallion turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine mated with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission will most likely be featured in the upcoming SUV.
Speaking about its launch and pricing, the company has not revealed anything yet, but as per the sources, it is anticipated to hit India by early 2022. The Mahindra Scorpio is one of a spate of vehicle releases slated until 2026.
