All-new 2018 Suzuki Jimny was recently leaked through a product catalog. As the name is familiar for die hard fans, most of everyday car fans would not be much aware of this car. It is actually a sister concern to Maruti Gypsy and believe it or not, high chances of Jimny’s arrival as India’s Gypsy are here for 2019.
The car enters fourth generation internationally, flaunting its off-road friendly aesthetics from every possible angle. Although it’s tiny when compared to other off-roaders, the 4×4 Jimny is a capable machine in all terms. This generation looks more like a mini Hummer.
The body is extremely squarish while headlight need no more than a circular glass over the bulbs. The styling may feel minimalistic to many but front reminds somewhat of Jeep Renegade front this angle. The ladder on-frame chassis is great in off-road use and also helps Jimny bring this straight attitude to the buyers.
Overhangs are almost negligible and that results in easy crawling over rough surfaces and rock beds. Jimny comes with a flat roof, hinting at design lines from the Mercedes G-Wagon also. Bumper mounted tail lamps and tailgate mounted spare wheel are two bold factors at the rear.
Expecting an automatic unit may not be a good idea for the Indian market as gypsy is branded as an affordable petrol powered off-roader. The sale will first start in Japan. Engine and drive-train is expected to stay the same as current generation Maruti Gypsy. They could even phase out the engine for the 1.0L Boosterjet option.
