2019 Maruti Celerio has been launched in India for INR 4.30 lakh. The popular compact hatchback brings more safety on the name of this yearly update while visual presence stays exactly similar to the older version. The safety package now includes ABS, dual airbags, driver and passenger seat belt reminder, speed warning system and reverse parking sensors. However, the brand still missed on passenger airbag in the lower spec-variants and those going for the optional variant can get both the airbags on all variants. The starting price for Celerio with dual front airbags is INR 4.39 lakh (ex-Delhi).
The car is available with a single 1.0L, 3-cylinder petrol engine that is good for 69 HP at 6000 rpm and 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox. The latter is great for heavy traffic as the owner will not feel the fatigue that comes from extensive gear changing and clutch operation in that condition. The availability of Maruti WagonR with a bigger engine around the price tag of Celerio (top-spec model) is the biggest restriction factor for the car. Buyers get a touchscreen infotainment system and 1.2L engine with 82 HP on the top-spec WagonR.
On the other hand, Celerio offers more traditional styling along with alloy wheels on the top model. The music player stays standard-type on all variants. Maruti could have introduced the Smartplay system to the car along with more features. Also, the price gap of INR 20,000 for both the engines in the WagonR clears the fact that the same 1.2L engine could have also entered the Celerio through this update. The top-spec model of Celerio (ZXi Optional) costs INR 5.35 lakh in the manual gearbox guise. The car can also be had in a CNG-equipped setup for INR 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom).
