2022 Maruti Brezza To Reportedly Come With 5-Star Safety Rating

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been the best-selling SUV in the country, and now the brand is gearing up to launch the car with the Brezza nametag only.

Ahead of its official launch, reports are coming in that the upcoming 2022 Maruti Brezza may score a 5-star safety rating in the car crash test by GNCAP. The compact SUV was awarded a 4-star certification for adult occupant protection and a 2-star rating for child occupant protection (thanks to a mandated rear child seat) in 2018.

During an interview with a famous news portal, GNCAP secretary-general, Alejandro Furas, stated, “The car (Brezza/Urban Cruiser) is not far away from a 5 star, there’s not much they need to do to achieve this.Recently, Global NCAP examined the Toyota Urban Cruiser, which is just a rebadged version of the Maruti Brezza.

Surprisingly, the safety rating went up. The Urban Cruiser received four stars for adult occupant protection but only three stars for kid occupant protection. This occurred as a result of the use of a rear-facing child seat at the time.

Aside from the star rating, GNCAP also certified both carsbodyshells as sturdy and capable of withstanding additional weights. Built on the Global C platform created in collaboration with Fiat, it appears that the SUV might be improved to earn a 5-star certification. As a vehicle becomes older, manufacturers usually start looking for methods to cut production costs. This was also one of the reasons GNCAP examined the Urban Cruiser after already testing the Brezza.

“We wanted to know if there were any changes implemented in the car since our first test [of the Brezza], and we’re gladly surprised to see the car is the same as we tested it with the Brezza,” Furas added. Beginning in July, Global NCAP will follow stricter regulations. The cars would be tested for side collisions, and they would also be required to feature electronic stability control.
