Suzuki is currently working on a new-gen Alto for its home market, and images of the Japan-spec model have already surfaced online. The Japanese version of the compact hatch will be an entirely different model than the Indian one. The 2022 Japan-spec Alto has a much boxier appearance, with vertical pillars and a flat roofline. And now, ahead of the official launch, its brochure has leaked and reveals the interior and exterior details.
In terms of design and styling, this compact car appears to have an entirely new front look, with a closed-off nose and a thin slat for the radiator grille. It has a dual-beam projector headlight upfront, and the front fenders and bumper look like a single unit. The car seems to be a little longer and taller than the previous generation. The new Alto in this leaked image is wrapped in a dual-tone paint scheme with a white roof and ORVMs and a blue shade for the remaining panels. The hatchback looks to be mounted on 14-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Moreover, the tailgate appears to be flatter towards the rear, but the taillights look to be identical to the earlier generation Alto cars. On the inside, the Japan-spec Alto will get a new dashboard layout that will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit flanked by vertically oriented AC vents. Other notable features include a semi-digital instrument dashboard, manual air conditioning, and steering-mounted audio controls. These features are likely to be included in the India-spec variant as well.
Although powertrain details for the next Japan-spec Alto remain unknown, its India equivalent is expected to be powered by a 796cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 47 bhp and 69 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Maruti may also bring back the 1.0-litre K10 engine, which produces 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque on the Alto.
