Suzuki unveiled the second-gen S-Cross back on November 26, 2021, and it features an all-new design in comparison to the last-gen model, which we have on sale in India. The MY2022 S-Cross is built on the updated version of Suzuki’s global C platform and looks muscular and grown-up. The crossover is being sold as a premium variant in the Indian market through Maruti Suzuki’s premium retail network, NEXA. While the previous model was criticised for being unimpressive in terms of design, Suzuki appears to have paid special attention to that.
Speaking about its design language, the new S-Cross has a wider piano black front grille flanked by three-point LED headlights, further emphasising its urban appearance. The chunkier wheel arches, as well as the aggressive plastic body wrapping in black, lend to the crossover aspect. The bonnet has also been updated and now has a more robust stance. Large air intakes and well-placed fog lamps are there, and the skid plate adds ruggedness to the crossover.
The rear end has been extensively redesigned, with L-shaped tail light clusters and a glossy black plastic strip in the centre. Some interior components, such as the air-conditioning vents and switch knobs, have been carried through.
But, for the most part, the cabin has been modernised as well. Then there’s a new freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen at the centre console that, of course, supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but everything else looks quite similar. We’ve seen the temperature controls, driving mode selection, and gear lever before on its predecessor.
The 2022 Suzuki S-Cross is powered by a 1.4-litre DITC (Direct Injection Turbo Charged) petrol engine paired with the automaker’s 48-volt SHVS mild-hybrid technology. The engine produces 129 PS at 5,500 rpm and 235 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm. The onboard electric motor has a power output of 13.59 PS and a torque output of 50 Nm. Suzuki’s ALLGRIP SELECT four-wheel-drive technology is standard on the crossover. It is regulated by a dial located on the instrument panel.
Coming to the information regarding the launch of the 2022 Suzuki S-Cross in the Indian markets, Maruti is going to replace the current-gen model in India with the all-new version by the end of this year or in early 2023.
